We want to follow trough this fork and test some hardware before and after fork occurs on October 1st. For this Tutorial we are testing out with our 8x 1080 gpu mining rig. Rig specification :

• The Aluminium angle frame
• Celeron G3900 Processor
• Biostrar TB250+
• 8x NVIDIA 1080 8gb GPU
• DDR4 4/8GB Memory
• Kingston 60GB SSD Harddisk
• 2xEVGA 850w gold rated power supply
• HiveOS operating system
• 8xusb pci Risers
• 4x1300rpm cooling fans at the miner back

So total network hashrate before  Network upgrade is 26.25 TH/s , it has more then doubled in last month alone. And 9x since March 2019, even there hasnt been big price changes lately, which could affect mining hashrate increase. So this is sign that there is new more efficient hardware mining Raven.

Mining Raven coin Before Network upgrade :

To mine Raven coin we are using hiveOS mining software, if you haven’t used it here is installation guide. We are mining on https://rvn.suprnova.cc , this pool has the biggest hashrate. So you will need to register here if you don’t have an account already. Next you need to create flight sheet , checkout video for more detailed explanation. If you know what you are doing you can just place this in your clipboard and create wallet name with same id you have in supernova pool.

After launching miner im getting average mining speed per card 27mh/s and total for mining rig 220 mh/s. Power usage is 1300 watts.

Updated:

It has been 20 hours after hard fork implemented. Network hashrate has come down to 6 Th/s, which is almost 5x lower then it was 20 hours ago.  So at the moment seems like the hard-fork to get rid of asics has been successful. Question is for how long???

We where testing these in hiveOS , and these are the results we are getting:

Power usage is really great on these cards, so at least there is some profit for mining in such tough times for miners. Like some of the other graphic cards even doesn’t cover power costs for mining. This means if you are using these cards , you can stay longer in the game without loosing money. Which is crucial for large mining farms, as we have seen a lot of them shutting down as they cannot cover the power costs.

But I do believe in the future we will reach new all time highs again , as the Bitcoin , Ethereum, Monero and other crypto assets fundamentals are to get more expensive as the usability increases. And also when markets get more and more mature the inflation rate drops for such assets.

We have seen such a bubbles with new technologies in past and it is nothing new. Bitcoin and other cryptos really is new technology and it has proven that there is a lot of use cases from a currency to a cloud computing power and smart contracts.

It is very hard to tell how long it will take for Bitcoin to recover, but We could look at similar bubbles which where internet stock bubbles like Amazon, Intel … etc . Amazon took 9 years to reach their all time high after bursting the bubble. I think Bitcoin could take potentional little bit faster thank 9 years, but its up to markets to decide not me.

There is a lot of downside and upside for such price crashes:

• Investors who bought high or raised money in ICO where feeling quite comfortable when the price was high , but not so comfortable now when the prices are crashed. I think most of them got sold their assets and the capital raised in ICO on the way down. Which have caused a bigger price crash.
• A lot of companies crypto related shutting down , for example GMO asic manufacturer recorder over 320milj loses just entering crypto space after 1 year. Bitmain another large asic miner manufacturer fires 80% of their staff. And there is many more ICO projects which raised capital at the peak which at that time seemed quite a lot but now it is 90% less and doesn’t have enough for developing their projects.

The upside:

• Probable the biggest upside is that we have got rid of fomo crowd who wanted to join get rich quick scheme. And also lot of scammers who where advertising secret mining services to mine one bitcoin a day.
• Another upside must be that existing projects can focus more on development on scaling the projects and get them more usable for next wave for “moon” and “lambos”. I think there has to be real usability that the price can go back up again. Same like internet , for example we couldn’t watch movies trough internet in 90s, now we can watch them on our smartphones. I think the fundamentals are there , but they need to be polished and improved more.
• Also it does open doors for new investors, its really hard for someone to buy crypto after its had massive rally. Smart money usually enters the market when prices are low. I know there was a lot of people saying when bitcoin was at 15k “ I wish it would come down at 10k,8k,6k I will buy bunch of them. But when it comes down they all disappear.

It is really hard to buy asset on its down trend as there is lot of fear that it will go much lower. Where is the bottom its nearly impossible to tell, we can only guess. But as im seeing this and have been in crypto for last few years, I don’t see it to go much more lower. Its very possible that we could have another 30-50% drop from where are we now. But it is not that much as what we have got so far. So Im thinking to buy some crypto assets soon and will do some challenge to accumulate more bitcoin at the end. My thoughts are to buy some of the 20 alt-coins which have have massive drops and which in my opinion has potentional in future and the development hasn’t stopped on them. So im thinking to spend some 5-10 btc on some alts and then hold them for 2-3 years and then exchange back to btc.

Im just not sure yet when is the right time to buy them to buy them now or to buy them when BTC is recovered. As the past in crypto market tells me that when bitcoin is going up in price altcoins is suffering , so maybe that would be the best time to buy. And also history proves after bitcoin has gone up alts are moving up at much higher rate and in that way I could generate bitcoin.

Antminer Z9 in one of the newest ASIC miners From Bitmain for mining Equihash Like Zcash , Zclassic , Zen Cash and other Shit-coins. So we got the miner for Tests couple days ago, as usually Bitmain with the specs are there are advertising on their website they are on point. Miners are usually as efficient or more.

To setup Antminer Z9 is the same way as any other Bitmain asic miners, you put in your pool address type in wallet info and you are good to go. We did connect this miner to Flypool to mine Zcash.

After the setup miner stats hashing nearly instantly , it does connect to mining pool much more faster then Antminer E3. Which took about 7-10 minutes to start hashing.

The results we got was :

• 42 Kh/s
• 1000 Watts

As many of you know Antminer Z9 mini was possible to overclock and get more then 50%extra hashrate which of course does make your ROI much more faster. But Bitmain has removed the option to OC as much In this software version. And there is only 2 overclock options now :

• “Balance” which is the stock setting 500mhz
• “Turbo” which has OC 550mhz

So when using overclock “Turbo” results are:

• 50kh/s
• 1100w

We did try also HTML hach which seems to didn’t work, as you are trying some OC which doesn’t exist, miner automatically restets to stock. Also we tried to edit CGminer configuration file which also was not supported.

Currently equihash miners are the only one of the most profitable as rest of the miners barely covers power costs and in some cases it doesn’t. For how long this is going to be, I dont know . As usually these asic miner manufacturers manufacture so many miners that mining difficulty increases so much that there is no mining profit. Probably expecting to 0 profit in 1-3 month if the prices wont change.

Overall thoughts about miner :

Miner working stable and profitable. After testing 2 miners , one hashing board died on one miner. Turning off after 30 minutes of mining. Tried software recovery which also didn’t help.
