Setting up the M60S is straightforward, akin to most ASIC miners. The initial step involves locating the miner’s IP address, for which we recommend the Advanced IP Scanner (download here). Upon accessing the miner via its IP address, use the default login credentials (username: admin, password: admin). Then, simply navigate to the miner configuration tab to insert your pool address and worker ID. For our review, we’re using the ViaBTC mining pool.

Performance Insights

After a few hours of operation, the M60S consistently performed at 191-192 TH/s. The chips’ temperature, though on the higher side, remained within acceptable limits, peaking at 80°C in a 10°C ambient environment. The pool’s recorded hash rate aligns with the miner’s panel, indicating accurate and reliable performance metrics.

Specifications: The WindMiner K9 was launched in November 2023, boasting a hash rate of 10.5 Th/s and a power consumption of 3300 W. It featured four fans, a voltage range of 165 to 300 Volts, and measured 305 x 185 x 290 mm, weighing 14800 g​​.

User Experience and Build Quality: My experience with the WindMiner K9 was fraught with issues from the outset. Not only did the hashing boards fail upon receipt, but the build quality was remarkably poor. The machine’s power supply was dislodged, most likely during shipping, due to inadequate packaging. Additionally, the hashing boards were not properly secured in their rails, raising serious concerns about the overall assembly quality.

Interface and Usability: Further complicating its use, the WindMiner K9 comes with a GUI that seems outdated, reminiscent of last century’s technology. The included tutorial, written in Chinese, does little to aid non-Mandarin speakers, making the setup process even more challenging.

Trustworthy Alternatives

Given these significant shortcomings, let’s explore more reliable options:

Antminer KS3: A trusted name in the ASIC mining world, the Antminer KS3 offers a stable and efficient mining experience. Its reputation for quality and reliability makes it a far safer choice than the WindMiner K9.

Iceriver KS3M: The Iceriver KS3M, while having its own minor issues, stands out for its overall decent quality. With a relatively low issue rate of about 4-5%, it proves to be a more reliable option compared to the WindMiner K9’s 100% failure rate.
